How a Mother and Daughter Created a Wellness Community for Women

Hi, Mia here at Nu Era. If you’ve found yourself on the Nu Era website, you’re probably wondering one of two things:

What actually is Nu Era?

or perhaps more importantly:

Why on earth would a mother and daughter decide to start a wellness business together?

Honestly, both are very fair questions.

First, I’ll quickly introduce myself. I’m Mia, the creative brains and one woman admin team, social media manager, website builder, content creator, and mostly IT support behind Nu Era. If you’ve seen an Instagram post or clicked around our website the chances are it has passed through my hands at some point.

I am also Lisa’s daughter and, somewhat surprisingly, her business partner.

Now, at the grand old age of 22, starting a business with my mum wasn’t exactly on my vision board. Yet here we are.

The reason for that is simple.

I genuinely believe in what we are building.

I recently graduated from the University of Exeter with a Master’s degree in Zoology in which I got to spend four sunny years living in Cornwall. While my degree might seem a long way from the wellness world, the truth is, I’m just a science geek with a new fascination behind health and longevity.

What I didn’t expect was that the biggest inspiration for Nu Era would come from much closer to home.

My mum.

The Journey That Started It All

Over the past year and a half, I have watched Lisa completely transform her health.

And when I say transform, I don’t mean overnight. I don’t mean through some miracle supplement, a celebrity workout plan or a juice cleanse that leaves you depressed.

I mean through consistent, sustainable lifestyle changes.

The truth is that wellness wasn’t really the environment we came from. Like many women, my mum spent years putting everyone else first. Life was busy. There were jobs to do, people to look after and a hundred competing priorities. Health often ended up at the bottom of the list.

Sound familiar?

When she decided she wanted to make a change, she wasn’t stepping into a world she already knew. In fact, she was entering a space that feels incredibly intimidating to most women.

The fitness industry often makes it seem as though everyone already knows what they’re doing.

Gyms are overwhelming.

Social media makes health look unattainable.

And many women are left feeling like they’re somehow “behind” before they’ve even started.

Despite all of that, she kept going. She learned about nutrition, she discovered forms of movement she genuinely enjoyed, she became stronger, fitter and more confident.

Most importantly, she proved that you don’t need to be perfect to make meaningful progress.

The Problem We Kept Seeing & Why We Created Nu Era

As my mum’s confidence grew, so did the number of conversations we were having with other women. We kept hearing the same doubts: “I’m too busy,” “I’m too old,” “I’m too unfit,” or “I’ll start once I’ve lost some weight.”

We believe major change is needed in the way women view health and wellness.

And thats where Nu Era was born.

We’re here to tell you you’re not behind, you don’t need to be perfect, and it is never too late to start.

If my mum can do it, so can you!

Welcome to Nu Era.
